Learning Outcome #2

The ability to understand emerging communication and media technologies, and the complex causes and opportunities of that evolution.

I believe this means with how fast technology and how we communicate changes, we need to understand that these changes are difficult to understand, and grasp. But with these changes in media technologies there are also new opportunities that come about. Crypto, NFT, etc.

I believe what artifact best fits into this learning outcome is a reflection on the Online Disinhibition Effect. The purpose of this assignment was to read John Suler's "The Online Disinhibition Effect", and explain it as if the Professor hadn't. Explain the overall concept, and explain a few factors. This was done in September of 2018 of a Studies in Communication & Media course.

I believe this assignment demonstrates meeting this particular learning outcome in many ways. The Online Disinhibition Effect explains how communication online is very different now. This effect explains more of the negative side of things but I think it gives you a great understanding of how the evolution of media technologies and communication is moving at a break neck speed. Unfortunately this just happens to cover the more negative side of this trend. How people don't care about sending nasty messages because they don't need to put their face behind their message. Probably the biggest evolution of media communication I believe. The Online Disinhibition Effect gives you no choice but to reflect on the major changes in media and communication and how they affect not only you, but everyone around you.
